Where can I get support?

We have summarised the Redundancy Payments Service process on this website. However, if you need further help with your money or with personal issues, there are other places you can go to seek help, set out below.

Redundancy Payments Service, RPS

The UK Government offers financial support to the redundant employees in the form of

  • Statutory redundancy pay
  • Arrears of wages
  • Holiday Pay
  • Notice Pay

You can get help on how to make your claims for statutory redundancy pay and other claims here.

There are statutory limits to the amount that you can claim.

Payments can take a long time to come through so it is important to plan your finances in advance. The amounts you claim may take 4 to 10 weeks to arrive, and sometimes longer. When your payment will arrive will depend on the circumstances of the insolvency.  For more information on how long a claim can take, click here

If you need further guidance or you have questions about statutory redundancy pay and your rights in redundancy not covered on this website, you can call the Government's Redundancy Payments Helpline.

Telephone: 0330 331 0020. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
For more information, visit the Government's redundancy helpline page.

Citizens Advice Bureau

Citizens Advice has a tool that helps you to work out your budget. The process takes about 30 minutes to complete, and it is available here.

Charities

There are some charities that provide advice and support for financial issues that may arise after redundancy.

Shelter has help and advice about financial issues that involve housing and debt. They give advice about housing benefits, council tax, and how to prioritise debt.

StepChange is a charity that provides free advice on problem debt based on what is right for you.

Debt Advice Foundation is a specialist debt charity that offers free, confidential advice on any aspect of debt.

The Trussel Trust partners with local communities to stop UK hunger. This includes providing food banks across the country. Use their Find a Foodbank map to find a food bank near you.
